Got a vector PDF of a drawing and need to re-edit it in CAD? Convert it back into DXF. Works only on text-based vector PDFs — scanned images can't be reversed.
PDFs come in two shapes. A vector PDF (exported from CAD or Excel) stores geometry as mathematical paths — lines, arcs, text as text. A scanned PDF is a bitmap image. This converter only works on vector PDFs — scanned ones have no geometry to recover.
Vector paths become DXF lines, arcs, and polylines. Text becomes DXF text entities. Layer structure is approximated from PDF layers (if the original PDF had them). Line weights and fills are preserved where possible.
The architect sent you a PDF but you need to measure, annotate, or modify it in CAD. Convert to DXF and pick up where the PDF left off.
A project closeout from five years ago exists as PDF. Convert to DXF to re-use the geometry in a new design or refurbishment scope.
If you want a BoQ from a drawing you only have as PDF, converting to DXF first gives Finorly more structural data to work with — richer schedule extraction.
Your PDF file, up to 100MB. No account required for the first 10 conversions per day.
We run PDF → DXF through the same pipeline we use for BoQ extraction. Nothing lossy, nothing skipped.
Download your DXF — or continue to BoQ extraction on the same drawing.
My PDF is scanned — can I convert it?
No. Scanned PDFs are bitmap images without geometry. You'd need OCR and vectorization first, which is a lossy process we don't support.
How accurate is the conversion?
For vector PDFs exported from CAD or Excel: very high accuracy. For PDFs that went through a third-party printer driver, some precision may be lost — straight lines sometimes come through as many short segments.
Will text remain editable in CAD?
Yes, if the original PDF used embedded text (most CAD exports do). If the PDF flattened text into curves, it becomes geometry, not editable text.
Can I convert a PDF that has multiple pages?
Yes. Each page becomes a separate DXF file, delivered as a ZIP archive.
Finorly takes the same drawing and extracts a full BoQ — mapped to NRM2, POMI, CESMM4, or SMM7. About 30 seconds instead of 4–8 hours.
Because you’re already doing this conversion somewhere. We’d rather you do it here, see the speed, and decide whether our BoQ extraction is worth paying for.
