Unlock Autodesk's proprietary DWG into the open-standard DXF format. Same geometry, same layers, same blocks and attributes — just in a format any CAD tool can read.
DWG is Autodesk's binary format, documented only partially and controlled by Autodesk. Opening it outside AutoCAD means relying on reverse-engineered libraries — fine for viewing, risky for round-tripping.
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is Autodesk's own published, text-based format designed for interchange. Every CAD tool reads and writes DXF faithfully. It's the format to use when your drawing needs to leave the AutoCAD ecosystem.
Your subcontractor uses Bricscad, your civils team uses MicroStation, your open-source colleague uses FreeCAD. DXF works in all of them.
DXF is text — your script or custom tool can parse it directly. DWG requires a specialized library. If you're automating anything, DXF is the format.
Finorly parses DXF natively — schedules, attributed blocks, and dimensions come through faithfully. Converting DWG → DXF first is the path to the richest BoQ extraction.
Your DWG file, up to 100MB. No account required for the first 10 conversions per day.
We run DWG → DXF through the same pipeline we use for BoQ extraction. Nothing lossy, nothing skipped.
Download your DXF — or continue to BoQ extraction on the same drawing.
Is this conversion really lossless?
Yes. DXF is Autodesk's own text equivalent of DWG — every entity (lines, blocks, text, attributes, layers, line weights) round-trips without data loss.
Will the DXF file be larger than the DWG?
Usually 2–4× larger, because DXF is text and DWG is binary. Compression (ZIP) brings DXF down close to DWG size if you need to transfer it.
Which DXF version does it output?
AutoCAD 2018 DXF by default — widely compatible across modern CAD tools. Older versions (2010, 2000, R12) available on request for legacy tools.
Can I go the other way — DXF back to DWG?
That conversion isn't available as a free tool right now. Most CAD programs can open DXF directly and save as DWG if you need it.
Finorly takes the same drawing and extracts a full BoQ — mapped to NRM2, POMI, CESMM4, or SMM7. About 30 seconds instead of 4–8 hours.
Because you’re already doing this conversion somewhere. We’d rather you do it here, see the speed, and decide whether our BoQ extraction is worth paying for.
